Issue
I have a code showing with a double question mark – what does this mean?
For example:
Solution
If your version 7 database contained codes that didn’t comply with STATS19 2011 format, these can’t be migrated to a correct value in KeyACCIDENT 2025 as we don’t know what the value represents
It will show in KeyACCIDENT 2025 onwards as the code with a double question mark
Hovering your cursor above the value will show an explanatory tooltip, for example:
The value stored in the database is the negative of the displayed value to make sure it doesn’t get mistaken for anything else
You can see these negative values in the Search Wizard by picking the relevant field and clicking the Quick Browse button
This shows the value and how many times it appears in your database, for example:
Migrating databases
When migrating databases, the import summary will show invalid codes in pairs. The first entry shows the invalid (non-compliant code) and this is paired with a negative value equivalent, as described above
For example, an invalid code of 3 for sex of casualty
Whilst this is now a valid code in the STATS19 2024 data format, it was not valid for the STATS19 2024 data format
We therefore do not know what it was intended to represent and is treated as a coding error
It might have been used to indicate an unknown value, but we cannot make that assumption
It is therefore imported as a negative value and appears as 3 ??
In the import summary, this invalid code will appear as two lines like this:
