Issue
I want to transfer KeyACCIDENT data into a database on a new server and do not need to retain:
- The audit history
- Saved cluster sites
- Saved search results – “Named Collision Collections” (NaCCs)
Solution
A simple process is to do the following for each database:
1. Load the KeyACCIDENT Database module, connected to the old database and server
2. Search and export data for each database via a ‘condition-less’ search
i. Go to Search / Export > Search Database
ii. Set date range to None and Do Search (this may take a while)
iii. Click Export
iv. Select format KeyACCIDENT Export File (KAML), including all available fields
v. Name the KAML file and select a location to save it
vi. Click Export Collisions (Export Accidents in older versions)
(See also KeyACCIDENT backup export below)
1. In the KeyACCIDENT Database module, go to: Tools > Change Database
This opens the Database Connection Management tool
2. Click Create New Database
3. Select the type of database required and click Next
Note: Azure SQL databases must be prepared in advance
4. Enter the following details:
- Server Name or IP address - sometimes a Domain Name System (DNS) can have connectivity issues
- Database Name for the new database
- Admin Password – the SA password or equivalent for the server hosting the new database
Note: You should not need to change the existing database login details
Click Create Database
5. A progress bar is shown
6. A message shows database creation is complete
7. Select the police force for the database from the dropdown list
Alternatively, if your organisation manages a road network covering multiple police force areas, select Highway Authority and select all applicable police forces in the dropdown list
8. Click OK and the database initialises
This adds necessary police force and local authority geographic boundaries to use with essential data validation
9. When completed, click Change Database to connect
10. Connection is to the new database is confirmed in the status bar
11. To add data saved in the KAML file, go to Collison Data > Add New Records
12. In the import dialog, select KeyACCIDENT – KAML format, pick the saved data file, and click Process
Note: Adding new data in bulk may take a while
When data import is complete:
i. Add the new data period range by clicking Apply New
ii. You can confirm the number of collision, vehicle, and casualty records at Collision Data > Collision Totals
Your data is now transferred to the new database and server
