I wish to aggregate and report on a series of search areas as one, how do I do this?

Issue

I wish to perform a search of accidents at different locations, for example at the entry points (junctions) to a housing estate, but I want to determine if there is a common pattern in the whole set.

Solution 1

We normally perform searches for accidents, within the CAD environment using a spatial filter such as a circle or polygon, one at a time. It is very possible to perform a search that uses more than one search area, or we can perform successive ones, aggregating the results each time.

  1. If you wish to preform a series of searches, perhaps also that include no spatial filter, you can ask KeyACCIDENT to remember the results of each search. Normally, when you start a new search, the current, active accidents are cleared from memory. Effectively, by switching the behaviour, you are stopping the active records being cleared. Note: at some point you may wish manually to clear the active records, or start again with a new set.
  2. On the KeyACCIDENT ribbon, in the ‘Search’ panel, there is a small drop-down that includes the items shown below. Clicking to ‘Append Results’ means that as each search is started, the current, active records, are not removed, and the results of each subsequent search is appended to the last.

Note - This command is a toggle so selecting it a second time means that for the next search the active records will again be forgotten.

Command: APPENDACCIDENTS

Append enabled: Search results appended to active records.

Command: APPENDACCIDENTS

Append disabled: Active records cleared before search results.

Solution 2

When you start a new search in KeyACCIDENT, using one of the spatial commands such as ‘Search in circle’ it is easy to miss the first page of the search wizard as, when the wizard is shown, the ‘Date Range’ screen is shown. Stepping back to the previous step you can add more areas to be included in the search. For this either existing geometry can be selected, or new ones drawn. If you need to draw a new shape, select this first form the drop-down and then click ‘Draw New’.
