How can I use my triangle based terrain surface model in AutoTURN Pro 3D?

AutoTURN Pro 3D supports Polygon Mesh and Polyface Mesh as terrain surfaces. Some applications will generate a terrain surface with discrete triangles in the form of a 3D face. At the moment, we have found the following ways of converting this terrain type into a Polyface Mesh so that AutoTURN Pro 3D can deal with it.

1. For AutoCAD® versions 2007 to 2009, please download the 3DSOUT utility from http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=9481286&linkID=9240618

  • INSTRUCTIONS: Using the 3DSOUT arx application, you will be able to select all the 3D faces and generate a 3ds file. Then in the AutoCAD command line, use the 3DSIN command and select your generated 3ds file. When the 3ds file is imported into a dwg file, it will become a polyface mesh and you will be able to use it in AutoTURN Pro 3D.

2. For AutoCAD® versions 2010 and later, please download the FBX® Converter from http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?id=10775855&siteID=123112

Please note that we suggest downloading the following version: FBX® 2011.3.1 Converter
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=16126812

  • INSTRUCTIONS: Save your terrain drawing as a dxf file first. Then use the FBX® Converter to convert it to a fbx file. Use the FBX® Converter again to convert the fbx file into a 3ds file. After that, in the AutoCAD® command line, use the 3DSIN command, and select your generated 3ds file. When 3ds file is imported in a dwg file, it will become a polyface mesh and you will be able to use it in AutoTURN Pro 3D.
